Ways to Help

And of course - please share!

Click on the above photo to view animal advocate, Ashley McAvey and Over and Above Africa’s Founder, Kerry David discuss how Ashley McAvey and a team of dedicated volunteers turned the State of Vermont into one that now bans the sale of endangered wildlife parts!

Ashley McAvey learned about the brutal world of poaching after seeing a National Geographic Magazine cover nearly ten years ago.

She read the article and the effect it had led her to embark on what would become an 8 year journey to ban the sale of ivory and body parts from 15 other protected/endangered animals in her home state of Vermont. Only 12 other states had achieved this success, but that did not deter her.

Together with a massive volunteer base she had galvanized, Ashley realized her dream 8 years later. She tells her story to her friend, filmmaker and Founder of Over and Above Africa, Kerry David. The two women met through their love of conservation. Ashley with her epic battle taking the legislative path and Kerry making her film, Breaking Their Silence: Women on the Frontline of the Poaching War.

Here, the two friends discuss the highs and lows of Ashley's Herculean journey.
